The Aerion related companies were in the process of design of a supersonic business jet, development of aircraft systems to revolutionize high-speed flight and address many of the cost prohibitive aspects of supersonic flight. As a part of this work, Aerion has a significant amount of intellectual property and holds many patents on aircraft system level design, component level design, process, and manufacturing design. Aerion also developed software design and optimization tools to rapidly optimize configuration, aerodynamics, and propulsion integration. Aerion was affiliated with significant aviation, defense and engineering companies as equity sponsors, partners, suppliers, and customers. Aerion was approaching the preliminary design review phase of the AS2 aircraft when a perfect storm of events saddled the aviation industry and capital markets for aviation companies with Covid-19, travel bans and various aircraft groundings.
